With a gallery in the San Juans for eight years I was compelled to paint the steam trains of the Durango-Silverton..not many times but getting more fun. Will end this year’s vacation painting this old steam line as radically as possible in both Silverton and Durango.
Hate ‘serious’ animal painting. Distortions, exaggerations, and whimsy..goofy color and expression is much more satisfying and avoids the gawdawful saccharine sentimentality in most ‘animal paintings’.
Commissioned portraits. Posed, in the sense that people were present, but they didn’t sit still. The essence was captured as we had fun talking, eating, playing on the floor – and of course, painting. The process is a form of entertainment for the poser and more fun than a human being can have for me.
Not classic nudes. Most paintings have popped from my head to the canvas. A smaller percentage were posed.
Imaginary and real people from life only. . . copied portraits from lens-focused subject matter are information poor. . . and copying is death to art.
Mostly creations of ‘food’ and ‘people’ not present. Compositions, colors imaginary. Chefs and kitchen maids, fish, fowl and fruits. Suitable for hanging in food prep and eating areas to flavor the experiences of cooking and eating.
Mostly imaginary still life paintings. No ‘model.’ Some literal, some expressionist. Eclectic composition and color. Silly tables and melting bottles. More design- than subject-oriented. Still life can be lively. . not ‘Bake Sale’ art.
On location and imaginary scenes some with a recognizable connection to a particular location..these would be , mostly, the cityscapes. The later painting dates are generally in a more kinetic expressionist style. All works are for sale unless marked SOLD. To purchase a painting, click on “Shop” button in the menu above. Mostly non-representational paintings in a kinetic style.
